#1 Tips for Collecting Artifacts and Defending Yourself

Submitted by Bill Freeman on 4 January, 2012 - 17:58.

I was having lots of trouble when trying to figure out how to collect artifacts. This process was not explained all that well in training. Through some sighted assistance and lots of patients, I think I have figured out how the controls work here. After activating the beam button, sliding your finger left or right causes your character to continuously turn in whichever direction you have slid your finger. The speed of the turn is determined by the distance your finger is from the beam button. In other words, the closer your finger is to the edge of the screen, the faster you will turn. To collect artifacts, you need to rotate your character until the artifact is centered in your headphones. Once it is in the middle, its sound will change to a high-pitched rapid ding. When this happens, quickly slide back over to the beam button, and slide your finger down a bit. At this point, the sound of the beam will raise in pitch and the dinging of the artifact will continue. Hold your finger there for about five seconds, and the artifact will be collected. Defending yourself works the same way. If your sound of your beam doesn't change, it probably means that you are out of quantom cells.

#2 Dimensions Is Now Free

Submitted by Kelly Sapergia on 17 May, 2012 - 10:49.

I'm not sure if this is a limited time offer or what, but according to the developers, Dimensions is now free. I've been playing this game for awhile now, and it's pretty good, except that I haven't figured out how to conquer the Nephalem other than by exiting the current dimension.

#3 Hi, I don't understand what

Submitted by alex wallis on 17 May, 2012 - 10:57.

Hi,
I don't understand what the objective of the game is, the description is very poor, and it certainly didn't sound interesting enough to be worth paying for.
I have downloaded the app while its free, but to be honest I still have no idea what the objective of the game is, I didn't finish the training dimensions, but as far as I could tell from the bit I did play there wasn't exactly any exploring.
Has anyone done a podcast about this game? maybe I would change my mind if I understood the objective a bit more, and what game play involves after finishing the training bit.

#4 I've been playing this game

Submitted by Steenwolf on 18 May, 2012 - 10:20.

I've been playing this game for a while now and still loving it. The developers seem very nice people as well. Now that the app is free, they have given paid players a quite large boost of quantum cells, which makes this the first time an app developer has compensated people in some way who paid for the app when the app got changed to free. Well, as far as I'm aware that is.

to answer some questions here about the goal of the game and how to play it properly. The main goal of the game is to play around with sounds. The collecting of quantum cells, artefacts and defeating nephilim is secondary.
To collect quantum cells, double tap and hold the beam button and move your finger either left or right to collect potential quantum cells.
To collect an artefact, double tap and hold the beam button, move your finger left or write depending on where the sound is. When it's centred you're finger should go back to the beam button's location, which is a bit getting used to and then you pull the finger down a bit towards the home button. When you've done this correctly the artefact gets transformed into a chunk of quantum cells.
To defeat a nephilim, you do exactly the same as collecting an artefact with the slight change of pushing the finger upwards, so away from the home button. If you fail, a chunk of quantum cells will be taken away from you.
Once you're used to these motions you'll have no issues gathering or protecting your quantum cells, which enable you to master a dimension. to master a dimension, you need to transform quantum cells into gaining a higher class. You can do this in the transformation lab.
Hope that helps

#5 OK, I get that bit, mm still

Submitted by alex wallis on 18 May, 2012 - 10:26.

OK, I get that bit, mm still sounds a bit dull to me.
But, what are in the different dimensions? is it literally just using the beam button all the time? and what happens when you master a new dimension, what's different about each new dimension?
Also, why does the game need an internet connection all the time?

Submitted by Steenwolf on 18 May, 2012 - 11:55.

I would refer to this as a passive game, probably the reason it's placed under the category of music instead of games in the app store. The developers took their experiences with Inception and added a minor game element to it. And yes, the beam button is the main control that gets used. Each dimension presents a new soundscape with different effects applied to the sounds picked up by the microphone. Mastering dimensions let's you move on to another level with a new set of dimensions. There are game centre achievements, but there's no element of competition.
The internet connection only gets used to get specific data. This data like location, weather, etc can influence how they present the soundscape of the dimension you're in. In the case of the Collective dimension it needs an internet connection to talk to people you have on twitter or Facebook who are using the app at the same time as you.
Like I said this game isn't a standard game, its mostly about the music and how the app augments/alters the sounds around you. It may not be something within your preferences.

Submitted by alex wallis on 18 May, 2012 - 11:58.

Hi, thanks for that info.
Now that I know all that, and that game play doesn't really have anything more to it, I think this app will be being deleted from my library, I am very glad I didn't pay for it.

the mic that coves with the iphone is good enough for the game. although wish they would fix the voice over lag issue though as it makes the game kind of frustrating at best to play. I'm still stuck on the training level. but I think I will get used to it. I'm still in the tranquil detention in the training mode. How do I get out of it? Transform all classes in to artifacts? This is an interesting game.

#11 Dimensions explained... thoroughly!

Submitted by Ken Downey on 20 October, 2012 - 23:52.

First, I want to let you all know that there is no longer a lag in the program created by VO. I am not quite sure when they fixed this, as I've never had the problem, but then I've only had my phone since August.
Anyway, don't think about Dimensions as a game. Think of it as a non-narcotic drug with the possibility of altering your consciousness, with just enough game play to keep you from going comatose. Yes, I'm serious. I've found myself staring glassy-eyed into space while playing this.
Start in whatever dimention you like. Click on the name of the dimension, and if you've unlocked it, you can click the pop-up enter button to enter it. Whenever you enter a dimension this way, infinity is automatically activated. More about this in a minute. Alternatively, you can click the enter dimension button and be placed in whatever dimension you belong in.
Once you're in a dimension, there are three buttons on the top of the screen. The first is screen lock, and it disables automatic screen locking. The next one, in the top center of the screen, is the infinity button. When this button is selected, you cannot, I repeat cannot, enter a new dimension until you have either disabled it by double tapping it or exited the dimension with the third button, labeled exit.

The Dimensions

The first dimension you come to after the training dimension is the tranquil dimension. You will almost always enter this dimension when you are quiet and in a quiet room. The soundscape is peaceful, and any noise you make is only altered slightly, and sometimes beeps are added to each burst of sound.

The Flux Dimension

If infinity is not selected, and there is a lot of noise about, you will be taken to the flux dimension. Here things are a bit more lively, and the sounds around you are altered in different ways.

The Active Dimension

For a change of pace, turn off infinity and shake your phone. That's right, shake the daylights out of it. You'll be taken to the active dimension, where movement changes the way things sound. Keep the phone still, and you go back to the tranquil dimension, so you've either got to keep moving or turn on infinity. When you shake your phone in this dimension, a vibrant music track plays, but it fades out as soon as you stop moving. Without infinity active, it's a bit hard to collect quantum cells and artifacts, since you constantly need to be running or shaking the phone.

The Ghost dimension

This is my favorite dimension of all. Here, everything is totally psychedellicized, and you begin to feel like Alice going down the rabbit hole, or like you've taken psychotropic mushrooms. Not only are the sounds stretched out of all proportion, but sometimes they are even played backwards almost as soon as they are produced. Very trippy--but you won't be able to spend your time zoning out, because this dimension is the home of the dreaded nepholim, who swoop out of the skies to steal your stash. They appear in every dimension, but they are found much more often here. To unlock this dimension, you must click the enter dimension button at any time between midnight and 1:00 AM. This is the ghosting hour, and during this time, more artifacts, quantum cells, and nephalim appear than at other times. Very exciting.

The Collective Dimension

Click the name of this dimension and the app will automatically scan for friends once you've signed in with your facebook account. Fee free to add me as a friend on Facebook as kenWDowney. This dimension is a really weird rap scene, with each new burst of sound mixed in as scratches. It's, um, interesting. Anyway, you can actually chat with your friends in this dimension!

Game Play

The Beam

"All things serve the beam,"
Steven King, The Dark Tower

In the center of the screen you'll find the beam button. Double tap and hold, then move left or right to collect quantum cells, which enter the dimension you're in little by little. You'll hear a ding for every little clust you find, and they come in hundreds. One sweep every three minutes will earn you a good harvest, and believe me you'll need them.
Click the quantum cells store button, in the bottom left corner, to see how many cells you have, and to get more for free. You can even buy more if you're desperate enough!
the transformation lab button, in the lower right-hand corner, shows you how many artifacts you still need to collect to complete the dimension you're currently in. You can also use the lab to convert quantum cells into the needed artifacts, but it's better to just use the beam.

Collecting Artifacts

Artifacts are chunks of quantum cells. Class A artifacts are the biggest and hardest to find and grab, while class H artifacts are small and easy to find. Emily at Mission control will alert you to the presence of both artifacts and nepholim, though she won't tell you what kind of artifact. To find out, double click the beam button and Voiceover will notify you. To collect an artifact, drag the beam button toward it. In other words, if the artifact is on the left side of you, double tap and hold the beam button and drag it left. The further toward the edge of the screen you go, the faster the beam will sweep, so if it is nearby use very slight movements. Once the artifact is centered, its sound will change in some way. Class H artifacts, for example, play their sound twice as often, and class G artifacts emit a high feedback-like sound. As soon as you hear that sound, move to the very center of the screen and drag downward. Hold it there until you have it. If the artifact begins to drift, just move, very slightly, toward it, and back again. The world you are in wraps around, so if the artifact sounds muffled you'll need to go all the way around the world to find it. Just move the beam to the far edge of the screen and count about two seconds, then go the center again and listen for it.

Artifact Difficulties

Class H artifacts are usually the most abundant artifact, and are also the easiest to get. They do not move much if at all. Class g are a bit more rare, and so on, until you get to class A artifacts, the most precious of all. These are very hard to grab, and make little sound, so you'll need a precise hand and sharp ears.

Nepholim

These guys sound scarier than they are, unless you're asleep, or zoning out in the Ghost dimension. They come down out of the sky and try stealing your artifacts. This can really set you back if they succeed. Note that once a dimension is completed, the nepholim can't take artifacts, nor can they take artifacts if you exit and re-enter the dimension. Use the beam button to center them, making sure they're not behind you, then center it and go up to the top of the screen. Don't go up unless you're sure you have the nepholim centered perfectly, or it'll drift away and you'll have to start from scratch, losing valuable quantum cells in the process.

The Uses of Quantum Cells

Quantum cells have four uses. The first use of quantum cells is to unlock dimensions. For example, if you can't get enough people to play with you in the collective dimension, store up 18000 quantum cells and voila! You are now able to enter it at any time by clicking its name and the pop-up enter button.
Quantum cells can also be transformed into artifacts. This is rather expensive and should only be done if you're really tired of waiting for that last artifact or two.
They are also used in the getting of artifacts, as well as in fighting off the nepholim. The rarer the artifact, the more quantum cells it takes to get that artifact.

Moving Higher

Once you've unlocked and completed all the dimensions in the first level, which is called the subdominant level, you progress to the mediant level. This level has new dimensions. I'll tell you about them some time ... once I've completed the first level. Until then, I hope this has encouraged all of you to play this. Remember, add KenWDowney as one of your facebook friends and maybe, just maybe, I'll meet you in another dimension.

#18 Interesting game, but difficult!

Submitted by Clare Page on 12 January, 2013 - 13:12.

Hi! I decided to try the Dimensions app today, having read the app directory entry about it after reading tweets linking to new comments on this entry. It's definitely an interesting app, although I personally find game play a bit difficult so far, especially picking up artifacts and dealing with the enemy, whatever it's called: I'm not giving up yet, though, I probably need lots more practice at using the beam. However, I will say one thing which nobody has pointed out here: this app doesn't work well with a bluetooth headset, in fact it switched to the earpiece of the phone itself when I tried to use mine. I no longer have the earbuds which came with my iPhone 4S, they broke and I haven't yet got round to replacing them, but luckily I had some old headphones with no microphone, so I could still play this with those, using the built-in microphone of the phone, and that seems to work. Hopefully it won't be too long before I master using the beam in this app!

Submitted by music fairy on 17 February, 2013 - 07:01.

this app is so much fun. however, it would be really cool if you could convert artifacts into qcs, as I have twelve Hes in ghost. Also, I think it would be cool if friends could share artifacts and qcs with each other, like if you needed an H, I could easily give one or two of mine. I think I will suggest this to the developer if i can find a way.

#22 Artifacts and collective

Submitted by music fairy on 19 February, 2013 - 07:51.

I am pretty sure that you don't have to have three friends online at once, but you have to have three friends using Dimencions on facebook, Twitter, or Game Center. However, I could be wrong, as I finally got Game Center friends using it, and the dimencion still didn't pop up, so I unlocked it. As to artifacts, how do you figure out what class it is? What does a class B sound like, as that is all I need to finish ghost, and I am kind of low on Quantom Cels, so I don't want to transform, and I keep using up a bunch of them by pulling in the wrong big artifact.

so you should be able to find me without too much trouble. Now if only I could figure out how to get into the dimensions on the third level... grrrr...
By the way, did you know...
The screen lock button should be caled something quite different. When activated, you get all the wonderful sounds of dimensions without the artifacts and those nasty nepholim. Now you really can get glassy-eyed in the ghost dimension!
By the way, yes, the nepholim can kick you right out of a dimension. In the info for each dimension, you'll see two fields, one called bans and one called escapes. This is the number of times the nepholim kick you out as opposed to just stealing your stash.

#43 To get to the Orient

Submitted by Ken Downey on 28 February, 2013 - 15:40.

To get to the Orient dimension, you have to press the inner dimension button right at sunrise. It won't take you there automatically. It actually have to start up the game and press enter dimension at sunrise, or just unlock it with 18,000 quantum cells. The cloudburst dimension doesn't seem to work at all, and I had to buy that one. The unstable to mention is the same. You have to follow them on Facebook or twitter The developers on Twitter, or just buy it with 18,000 Quandt themselves like I did. The real mystery is how to unlock the equinox and nomad dimensions. Annahat luck with either one of those two yet, though I have a feeling that if I am at the dimension on the first day of spring equinox might be unlocked, I've traveled around entered the dimensions, and still no nomad dimension.

#44 ken, just wondering how did

Submitted by moumoku-ninja on 28 February, 2013 - 20:11.

ken, just wondering how did you get the last 2 dimensions in the second level? because I really don't want to pay 36000 points if I can avoid it
I click enter dimension at the reported sunrise time on weather.com but no go for orient, and unstable never seems to be open if you look at the facebook page
any help would be great

#45 I actually bought Cloud Burst

Submitted by Ken Downey on 1 March, 2013 - 15:25.

I actually bought Cloud Burst and Unstable. I think with Orient you just have to be playing the game around sunrise and it automatically takes you there, so get on about ten minutes before sunrise and play through in any dimension. You'll probably have to buy Unstable, but the good thing about the Orient dimension is that it's huge, and you'll collect quantum cells very quickly. Since it's twice the size of thers though, artifacts are a tiny bit trickier to get. I think that Cloud burst is bigger too.

#47 chattingin the collective dimension.

Submitted by marrie on 1 March, 2013 - 19:12.

Hello to all. I cannot figure out how to chat in the collective dimension. Can someone either show me how or demo, Ok the second option is not possible but anyone who can help out in this matter would be cool. I almost had a chance to talk with some people I have not talk to in a while lol! and I would say the music track is interesting to say the least. I wish it were slightly lower in volume though. I'm still on the first level and loving the game.

Hehaha. I did as well. I think I did figure it out but I could not hear what the person had said if they did say anything. You double tap the button, and it gives you five seconds to talk than it quits. But that's about how far I've gotten. Feel free to add me via Facebook or game center if you want.

#53 no one online even though all of us are in collective?

Submitted by marrie on 4 March, 2013 - 01:28.

hello to all. I went in to the dimensions game intending to hang with some people in the collective dimensions, except all of us saw that no one was online even though all of us had loved in to the app at the exact same time. We all waited in the collective dimensions and I went out to the main screen then the drawer then collective and let it scan. it said 0 out of my friends were online. Is anyone else having this issue this lovely beautiful evening?

Thanks and be blessed.

#56 VoiceOver hints must be on

Submitted by James Dean on 6 March, 2013 - 13:15.

If it just says "Beam Button," that could be because your VoiceOver hints have been disabled. Go to settings/general/accessibility/VoiceOver. Swipe right until you find "Speak hints." doubletap to toggle the setting to on if it is currently off. Then try just touching the Beam button again and see if VoiceOver doesn't tell you the information you are looking for.

Good luck!

Also when I do manage to level up will I still be able to access level one's demensions as I love thos and want to keep them especially connective or connect, the one wiht the moving drum as you walk or run? and tranquel and collective, not ghost! that one scares the living crap out of me lol!

#58 Yes. All dimensions remain

Yes. All dimensions remain accessible after leveling up. The more rare An artifact the more qc it takes to collect it. HTH

#59 Oh wow I did not know this.

Submitted by marrie on 7 March, 2013 - 22:08.

Oh wow I did not know this. the manual does not say this at all. or I missed it. Will I loose QC's even if the artifact is needed in that demension like the clas d I need in kinetic that I'm never going to get lol! I also notice that if I accidently try and get an artifict and lift my finger from the beam I still loose QCs even though I quite in the middle of the attempt. Is this normal behavior for the app?

Take care and lovign the app. lol!

#60 Yes, it is normal, because it

Submitted by Ken Downey on 7 March, 2013 - 23:17.

Yes, it is normal, because it tsakes energy for the beam to, let's say, lift the artifact. So even if you lose it, you've still expended energy.
The longer you stay in any given dimension, the more likely a better artifact will come along. Stay for ten minutes, and all you'll get is class h and g. Stay for an hour and you'll see all the others.
By the way, I mistunderstood the screen lock function. It's realy quite cool. Activate it if you want to zone out, not worrying about artifacts and nepholim. You can even go out of the app with the screen locked and still hear its sounds, without worrying about getting kicked out by those nasty brutes.
By the way, if you have a nepholim centered and push up on the beam with no effect, it's behind you. It's sound will be slightly muffled compared to if it's directly in front of you. The beam pushes them away quite quickly most of the time, and so you'll know right away if you're succeeding. Also, the pitch of the beam changes, revving up as its power is engaged.
Man, I wish I knew if the third level exists or not. I've fcompleted the first two and wish they would give at least a hint on how to unlock the equinox and nomad dimensions, if as I say, they exist at all yet.
I still love this game. It's quite addictive.

#61 the reason why the next

the reason why the next dimensions aren't unlockable, I believe is because they're still being worked on

Submitted by music fairy on 31 March, 2013 - 11:01.

Thanks. That was it. when I turned hints on, it gave me the name of the artifact. And I know what you mean about the third level. Very frustrating.
