Alternative way to navigate login screen?

By Wenwei

Hi, everyone.

According to this podcast demo, you can disable FileVault to allow VoiceOver to function as expected at the login screen. I hesitate to do this because I don’t have a good enough reason to not encrypt the startup disk. Is there any way to reroute Voiceover audio somewhere at login screen or a set of keystrokes I can use to enter my credentials? Tabbing doesn’t work–or at least I have never gotten it to work without VO output.

Sometimes, I have not been prepared to consult a file that is on my MacBook and I cannot disrupt the Zoom meeting that I’m facilitating by logging into my computer. Any suggestions would be much appreciated – thanks!

Edit: I started the laborious process of locating and organizing PNGs and videos into a single folder that will automatically sync to the cloud – I'm paying for it anyway so might as well use it 🤷🏽‍♀️ even if I don't anticipate needing the visual aid ever again. It's not that big of a deal if I'll never be able to do this.

Hi, with File Vault enabled we don't have much of a choice for logging in, when my mac starts, I type my user name and press enter which takes me to the password field, this works for me, although if I mistype the user name or password it's sometimes a hassle to fix the error without the usual voiceover commands available. Still, I prefer to leave File vault enabled so far I haven't had to use sighted assistance to log in.

Just tried it a few times…
