How to Check Battery Health and Optimize Battery Charging in iOS
By AppleVis, 15 September, 2019
In this podcast, Thomas Domville explores the battery health features of iOS 13, in particular the new “Optimized Battery Charging” feature which is designed to extend the total battery life of your iOS device.
If you don't have location services turned on, optimize battery charging will not work. While you're under location services, check to see that the following settings are on: • Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services > System Customization.
• Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services > Significant Locations > Significant Locations.
Because I do not charge my phone at the same time, I do not think it will work. My 11 pro max is charge every 2 days at different times. I think if you charge it at around the same time, it will learn.
The key is to plug it in every night around the time that you go to bed. It will learn your charging pattern this way. I’ve I’ve only had this working now for the past couple days, it seems like that even if you don’t have a set schedule, that it will charge based upon an eight hour time period. The location services need to be on in case you were to travel somewhere where your routine may not be so normal.
I do not plug it all time because with the 11 pro max, by the time I go to bed my phone is 50, 60 or 80% and there is no need to do so. I asked and was told if I turn phone it will not hurt it so I do and restart in the morning and keep using until it needs charge.
Well, you can do what you want. I used to do it where I would not charge it every night. Ever since IOs 13 came out last fall, I've been plugging in it every night. It was recently that I discovered that I needed to turn on the previously mentioned settings in order for it to work. The idea behind this feature as mentioned in the podcast is that you're phone isn't at 100 percent as long which would mean less wear and tear on your battery since it would be taking in a charge to stay at 100 percent until you unplug your phone.
