Announcing our Monthly $20 iTunes Gift Card Giveaway

Hello from the Team at AppleVis.

We know that it's only been a few days since our last newsletter, but we have some exciting news that we wanted to share with you.

Monthly $20 iTunes Gift Card Giveaway

We are pleased and excited to announce that two members of the AppleVis community have very kindly offered to donate a $20 iTunes Gift Card each month for us to giveaway to one lucky user of the site.

This wonderful gesture is in recognition of what we are trying to achieve here at AppleVis, and to help us make this an even more valuable resource to the community.

To be in with a chance of winning the Gift Card, you simply need to post any of the following to the site during the month:

  • Submit an app to the iOS or Mac App Directory that hasn't previously been posted
  • Record a podcast for us to share through our podcast feed
  • Submit an Accessory Review
  • Submit a Guide or Tutorial
  • Write a Blog post

At the end of each month the names of everybody who has posted any of the above will be placed into the virtual AppleVis hat, and one winner will be chosen at random. The more content that you submit to the site, the greater your chances are of winning the Gift Card!

We hope that you will see this as yet another great reason to get involved and to share your knowledge and experiences.

In the past few days we have also launched a new Campaign of the Month and announced the latest inductee into our iOS App Hall of Fame.

Our New Campaign of the Month

Anybody calling Amtrak's Customer Service in recent months is likely to have encountered a recorded message in which they were encouraged to use the company's iOS app.

According to this message, the app enables you to check the status and times of trains and to buy tickets, meaning that there is no need to wait in a queue for your call to be answered. Or at least that is the case if you are sighted. Anybody who relies on VoiceOver will soon find themselves back in the queue, as these features of the app are not accessible.

Considering the large number of blind travellers who rely on public transport, this is extremely disappointing, and is why we have chosen Amtrak's iOS app to be the subject of our current Campaign of the Month.

As always, the more people who support our campaign, the more likely it is that the developers will take notice. A number of apps have been updated with improved support for VoiceOver after featuring in one of our campaigns, so please head over to the Campaign of the Month page and add your voice.

Digit-Eyes Becomes the Latest Inductee into the AppleVis iOS App Hall of Fame

We are pleased to announce that the latest iOS app to be inducted into our App Hall of Fame is Digit-Eyes Audio Scanner and Labeler.

For some time it was looking like this would be an extremely close vote, with several apps appearing to be in contention. However, Digit-Eyes ultimately won out as the firm choice of AppleVis users, gaining more than double the number of votes of its nearest challenger.

If you are not familiar with this app, Digit-Eyes Audio Scanner and Labeler offers quick and easy access to extended information on more than 25 million products. If any item that you scan isn't already in the Digit-Eyes database, there's a good chance that it will be within just a few days, as the developers employ an automated system to monitor and update the database. As a result, most days will see several thousand products added.

For items not in the database or without barcodes, the app enables you to record your own description or create and print personalized labels.

We are sure that the many existing users of this app will endorse that it rightly deserves this recognition, and our congratulations go to Nancy and the team at Digit-Eyes.

Be sure to visit our iOS App Hall of Fame to see a list of all 15 inductees. On that page you will also find details of this month's nominees and can cast your vote for the one that you think most deserves to be inducted.
