Receiving email alerts of new content and replies

Anybody who has posted to this site over the past few days will have noticed that we are in the process of upgrading the feature that enables you to get email alerts of new content or replies.

On most pages of this site, logged in users will now see a more prominent option to get email alerts of any new replies to that page or to receive alerts for any new content or replies posted to that area of the site (for example, any new iOS App Directory entries).

You can also manage and fine tune your subscriptions via your account page at: www.applevis.com/user/me/subscriptions

By default, you will automatically receive alerts for any replies to your own posts or threads that you have participated in. If you prefer not to receive these, it can be disabled via the above page.

I still have a little fine-tuning to do, mostly of the way that the option is displayed on pages, but it does appear to be working quite well.

We hope that you will find this another useful way to keep up-to-date with what is happening on the site.

I was wondering what was going on. I thought i was going crazy when I started receiving emails to my threads I replied to. Thanks for letting us know what is going on so those of us who thought we broke something know we did not. good job on the site.

I've made a few more changes to the way that the subscriptions work, one of which is to allow you to set the frequency interval for receiving email updates.

You can now choose to receive email alerts:

  • As soon as possible
  • Hourly
  • Every three hours
  • Every twelve hours
  • Daily

You can select your default frequency interval via your account page at: http://www.applevis.com/user/me/subscriptions

On that page you can also choose to receive your alerts in digest format.

The App Testers newsletter is one of our 2 email newsletters that you can subscribe. If we are approached by a developer who is looking for people to beta test an app, we will usually post details via that newsletter.

The beta testing would be on behalf of the developer, so feedback would go to them. But, to clarify, this is only for the occasions when we are specifically asked by a developer to test and provide feedback on the accessibility of a current or pre-release version of their app. If you encounter accessibility problems with any apps that you download from the App Store, then you should consider writing to the developer and asking that they fix these problems. If doing so, it is helpful to provide as much information as possible, so that they can replicate the problem. This would include telling them the hardware that you are using, the version number of your operating system (iOS or OS X), the version number of their app, what you are trying to do, the steps that you take, what you expect to happen, and what actually happens. I know this sounds like a lot, but the more information that the developer has, the easier it is for them to find and fix the problem.
