Hi. Either tab past the comment heading, so you'd see mine as two ways to do this. There's a link that says reply. The other one, is just to use form controls to find the second field. That will say subject and you can put whatever you want.
As Siobhan has said, to post a comment you need to locate and use the “Add new comment” form on the page.
And here's why I've reluctantly had to change from how things used to be...
The software I use to power the site has recently changed how commenting works.
This change presented me with 2 choices of how to display comments on the site moving forward:
Threaded comments - you can reply to a specific comment. Your comment will be placed directly below it in the comment thread.
Flat comments - comments are displayed in chronological order, oldest to newest.
Previously I was able to implement a hybrid of the two, one which I felt worked well for those of us using a screen reader - you could reply to a specific comment, comments were presented in chronological order, but your screen reader would indicate if a comment was a reply to a previous comment. The benefit of this approach was that you knew that any new comments since your last visit would be located at the end of the list - there was no need to navigate through the whole list to find anything new.
However, the under-the-hood changes made to the software currently make this hybrid impossible to implement (and, no, believe me, it's not as simple as the “reply” link having been removed).
Consequently, I had to choose between a pure form of either threaded or flat comments.
Despite really not wanting to sacrifice the benefits of threaded comments, I couldn't see any way in which being able to quickly and easily locate new comments would be a far greater sacrifice.
I haven't given up on finding an hybrid, but for now the option to reply to a specific comment is not available. Believe me, as the person who likely spends the most time on this site , I wouldn't have made this change if there was an option not to.
The bottom line, keep those posts and comments coming... the “Add new comment” form is there and easy to use ☺️
I usually just skimmed the headings, read what i needed and went on. Now, the only thing that I just noticed that's making me crazy? The "article, and end of article" that I find on this and other sites. It's annoying lol. Fix that. :) just kidding.
No it's gone. I just noticed this today. I'm actually glad it is, as it really never did much but create a new thread at the bottom of the posts. It really never nested the replies like I thought it would into heading levels.
