Daisy players for the Mac

Hi all, Besides ReadHear for the Mac, wondering if anyone else has come across any other daisy players for the Mac which can do both text and audio formats? I know we have Olearia which is free, but it only does daisy audio. ReadHear is great, but for some folks it is a bit out of their price range. David

#1 daisy players

Hi David, I was wondering if you found a good daisy player for the Mac? I know that Bookshare offers something but it will only read bookshare files. I'd like to have one app that can read all kinds of daisy content regardless of the site I get it from. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

#3 Dasy Players for the Mac

Hi, I am a Mac and IOS developper and I was going to see if I can develop an app for the Mac that can read Dasy and Audio books from NLS, RFB and D and for all of the other talking book and Dasy books out there.

I just took a look at the Google Code site for Emerson and it appears the latest versions are more than two and a half years old! It seems safe to assume this project is, sadly, dead.

#5 Bookshare's DAISY Player Remains Inaccessible

Sadly, as of my last check, the Read Aloud software Bookshare provides for Mac users does not work with VoiceOver and is, thus, inaccessible to the blind. I am quite frankly shocked Bookshare continues to deliberately provide software it knows to be inaccessible and that we, as an online blind community, are not finding ways to absolutely compel Bookshare to right the situation. :-(

#6 Looks Like We Still Need a DAISY Player for the Mac

It looks like we don't have any current Mac OS X Daisy player options that are accessible with VoiceOver. I would thus be willing to use an open-source DAISY player or even buy one at a reasonable price. You can work with Bookshare and Learning Ally to develop ways to play their books but, as of now, NLS is still only available on NLS digital players and some other portable devices. You can visit http://developer.bookshare.org for information on their software development kit for downloading and using Bookshare files.

Emerson does not work with voice over but it will work for zoom users.

Hi, I agree ReadHear is overpriced, but it really is the best by far. Olearia has problems with mountain lion the audio play back keeps stopping all the time, this has been reported to the developers by many people on many occasions. The developers tell me they are working on a version which will do what ReadHear currently does, but they gave me no time frame as to when it will be finished.

#11 Capti Voice Narrator?

Hi all. I just listened to the audio walkthrough about the Activities feature on the Mac done by David Woodbridge, and he mentioned Olearia so I did a search for it on here. Thus my reason for replying. I've never used that app but I am wondering if Capti Voice Narrator works for DAISY stuff? I've tried this app but am giving up on it because I can't figure out how exactly to use it. But perhaps it will work better for the person who asked about DAISY texts.

#12 Daisy player for Mac?

I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations for an all-in-one daisy player for the Mac like David was asking for in his original post. If not, what are some recommendations for the best Daisy player/players on the Mac? I'll be starting a training course with Daisy materials and I'd Ideally like the ability to open them on my Mac in addition to the iPhone. It seems like there are plenty of options for iOS and not so many for the Mac. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
