Up until recently I used Lyft to get around because their app seemed more accessible than Uber's. But that appears to have changed recently because now when I launch the Lyft app, all I git is an image that double tapping on seems to do nothing and there appears to be nothing else visible to Voice Over.

Hi there, what device do you have and what version of iOS are you running? Have you updated the app or have you tried deleting and re-installing? I'm not familiar with any image that would be coming up to block access to the app, it should just log you right into your account and bring you to the home screen. If our Terms of Agreement consent form appears, it's fully accessible with Disagree and Agree buttons at the bottom of the screen. Has it been a while since you tooka ride?
I've done all that already
I have a 128 GB iPhone SE 2020 which is running iOS 14.7.1 or whatever is the latest released version.
since I just updated all the apps that had updates available, and Lyft was one of them, I have the latest version of their app. And I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it. But this problem started in at least the previous version.
I started using Lyft in January, but hadn't used them for several months, then restarted using them around the beginning of July. Then a week or so ago I tried to use the app after updating it and found it completely unusable. That single image I get now wasn't there but a whole bunch of landing points were and none of them made any sense. By landing point, I'm referrring to flicking left and right to browse the screen, the landing points are the points on the screen where Voice Over thinks ther is a control or something that needs to be read to me.
I chose Lyft over Uber because there were reports that Uber's app has always had accessibility problems, and Lyft's app was mostly accessible. Lyft also haed about six times as many ratings as Uber which tells me that they are more popular. And Uber has been in the news in a very negative way a few too many times for me when compared to Lyft. And the final reason I chose Lyft over Uber is because Aira supports them but not Uber. Though if Uber's app is more accessible, maybe I'll just switch to using them instead.
Screen Recognition
Have you checked to be sure screen recognition didn't get toggled on for the app?
+1 to turning off Screen Recognition
I'm fully blind and test the app every week for accessibility issues. Definitely make sure you toggle screen recognition off for Lyft, that will totally break the app and there's no reason for it to be on for using the app.
I turned it off ages ago
When I first encountered both of Voice Over's recognition features, I found them so confusing as to just exactly what is going on that I turned both of them off!
Have you Checked?
Even though you turned it off long ago, have you checked that it is still off? This would not be the first time someone had an issue with screen recognition and thought it was long ago turned off, only to find it on.
It is off!
It is off! For a sanity check, or a reality check if you prefer, I just checked and both image and screen recognition are off.
At this point I have removed Lyft from my home screen, and will check it again after the next update, and if it is still inaccessible to me, I will delete it from my phone.
Re: Lyft no longer accessible?
Hello,
I just used Lyft version 6.99.3 on my iPhone running iOS 14.7.1 and it worked fine.
This may be a stupid question, but have you tried turning the iPhone off and back on?
Sometimes that can cure weird things like this.
It's working!
I have no idea what I did to fix it, but that image that was blocking my access to the Lyft app is finally gone!
Whew!
Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm fairly certain that something in there sorted it out for me.
I'm glad it's fixed
Hi. glad whatever worked worked. I like Lyft for a couple of reasons. first, usually they are cheaper then Uber because i pay what I want not the going price. Twenty bucks to go nine miles is unacceptable. second, a great friend is automatically given my ride details. In fact I didn't go anywhere and they called to ask why. Lol. The last one may be somewhat touchy but I find Lyft drivers are more english speaking then Uber. Don't get me wrong, I am happy both companies employ anyone who needs a job but if there's a communication barrier, again, being left in the midst of streets, is also unacceptable. The only thing i don't like so much is Lyft doesn't give you much info about the driver. I mean why are they rated 5.0? Uber has a little profile thing.
