VoiceOver unresponsive during iOS update

VoiceOver went silent during my recent 9.3.1 update and the previous update too. I had to ask someone with vision to enter my password for me before VoiceOver began talking. Please can someone help me out in order not to suffer this ordeal the next time?

Forum:

#1 I don't remember having to

I don't remember having to enter a password during set up. Maybe I did actually, but I never have had that issue. Next time just try starting it again via the usual ways, that is siri or a tripple press of the home button.

You say during setup, Voiceover stopped talking. At what point during setup did it stop?

#3 after the update begins

after the update begins installing its normal for VoiceOver to stop talking because the phone is rebooting and doing all sorts of install stuff, when its finished VoiceOver should come back just leave it alone after installation starts and it will talk again, usually takes around 10 or 15 minutes for me after it says its installing.

#4 on the wellcome screen

Hi Alli voiceOver doesn't stop working the only thing is voiceOver doesn't identify the keyPad or to explain better voiceOver doesn't read the keypad I saw this issue as well it happened after been updating to iOS9.3.1 on the welcome screen voiceOver as usual announce the welcome screen Hello slide to set up
however if you update using iTunes will be asking for your passcode to continue at your iOS device.
voiceOver is running and only reads on the bottom The keypad is there to put the passcode but VO doesn't recognize it, the only way how you can enter the passcode is turning voiceOver off once you did there not problems it all and the voiceOver gesture work perfectly making all the actions.
Probably for who update the iOS devices using over the Air there not seen this voiceOver issue.
in my case it happened using iTunes but I been thinking about it, I have an iPhone 6S with touch ID to unlocked the screen when iTunes asked to install the update ask unlocked your iPhone in order to continue I used touch ID rather of typed my passcode.
possibly this would not have happened I had put passcode instead of using touch ID.
All what iOS device model do you have?

#5 Hi. I've never seen this

Hi. I've never seen this issue. The upgrade worked flawlessly. I usually do it over the air, so it's normal to loose VO temporarily while the apple logo is on screen. The phone like alex said, is just rebooting and updating software, firmware, etc. Then VO should come back and ask you for your passcode if set up.
HTH

#6 I use itunes to update and I

I use itunes to update and I've never had this issue. I've had the passcode both on and off and so far I have been able to enter it.

#7 Hi Marco,

Hi Marco,
Many thanks for sharing your similar experience. I also use iPhone 6S and experienced this problem when I was updating through iTunes. I think one is required to enter passcode (as iPhone restarts) even when one has touch ID.

#8 At what point

At the point of finishing set up.

#9 this since to be unknown issue

just updated to another iPhone 6S plus using iTunes and I didn't have this welcome screen passcode
seems to be a unknown issue that only been presented for some users.
Justin and Alex this issue is nothing to do that you are talking about as I said is not during the installing the new version or rebooting the device the issue is after the installation has been completed on the welcome screen and voiceOver doesn't stop working only is impossible type your passcode using voiceOver .
probably include KE7ZUM and some others have understood about this issue and for some others do not understand because it simply has not happened the inconvenience and do not know what we are talking about

#10 No issues here. I would call

No issues here. I would call apple accessibility and report this to them.

#11 this seems to be unknown issue

I agree it should be fairly uncommon issue because I only experienced this with my last two updates. Previous updates before these last two with iTunes were perfect and I liked the experience. Actually, I have had no problem updating over wifi and I do not know if the problem emanates from using iTunes to update or what?

#12 Blah thought my comment from

Blah thought my comment from earlier got posted. Anyway, have you called apple accessibility and told them what happens? What was their response?
