Hello all,
How can I get a kindel book to read even if my phone is asleep? I remember seeing how to do this somewhere but I cannot find it again.

Thanks for any help,

#1 speak screen i think works

hi if you turn on "speak screen" in accessibility, i belive that when you tell Siri to "speak screen" when in the book it will supposedly start reading, and allow you to lock the screen. However, can someone correct me if i am wrong, but when a page turn comes up it does not turn the page if using speak screen and continue, yet from podcasts i have heard it does. i too, would like this feature to work consistantly, although i guess it comes down to sighted people need the screen to be awake which enables them to read a book, so the same is true for us who rely solely on speech. hth Will

#2 Hi,

Hi,
Yeah it turns pages automatically, as far as I can remember. Also, just for an FYI thing, you can enable speak screen by going to the status row at the top of your screen and swipe down with two fingers like you are doing a read all command.

#3 Speak screen requires the

Speak screen requires the status bar to be there, and, in the most recent version of Kindle for iOS, it removes the status bar while in the book. I am using an iPhone 7 Plus running iOS 10.2.1, so it may be different on the iPad and older phones and iOS versions. The work-around I found was to double tap to bring up the menu. The status bar re-appears, and you can swipe down with two fingers on the status bar. speak screen will indeed activate, but it will stop at the end of the page. The only legal way to read books with your screen locked is to buy from a vendor who does not include DRM, and uses a format that works with your third-party book reader.
