Cannot save google account on iPad Mini

What shiny new turd has Apple dropped in my lap this time?

I am trying to set up my iPad Mini to access my Google account so I can use it to access GMail and all my other Google account information.

I enter my email address and my password which seem to be accepted because no errors are generated, but the iPad continues to act like no account credentials have been entered. I have tried this three times now and have gotten three security alerts from Google that my account was signed into with an iPad Mini which is further proof that my account information has been entered correctly.

So, is there a work around for this problem or am I out of luck?

Found a work around, but Apple, really?

After some searching on the Internet it appears as though not being able to save your Google account information in the EMail app has been a problem since iOS 8 or 9, and I'll bet it's still a problem in iOS 11 too, as Apple didn't seem inclined to pay it any attention in the Apple support forums I found the problem being discussed in.

Oddly enough it seems as though you can add your Google account to the Calendar and Contacts apps with no problem, you just can't addit it to the EMail app, but there is a work around for that.

The work around is to choose the other account type and enter your gmail account information, including server names.

But honestly, that such an obvious bug should remain unresolved for so long is totally unacceptable and inexcusable.

I have another

I have another workaround. If this is the 1 you're talking about having tried, I appologize. In the settings app, there's a section called Accounts and Passwords. If you click on that, you'll see a list of the accounts and your passwords which you can click on and edit indiviually. You'll also see a section to enter a new password. Maybe go through that step and see if that at the least gives the ipad the info from your Google Account. Or at most, solves your issue to where when you enter your email info, it'll recignize it, and you won't have to do much.
