Description of App

"Play music by ear"

Learn That Song (PLAY Edition) is a musical assistant that helps you learn to play your favourite songs.

It can control the Music app (including streaming Apple Music songs), loop parts of a song, display a waveform, and rewind or fast forward like a tape
player.

You can use it without reading complicated instructions, managing files, or understanding English; you can even operate it without looking at the screen
(!).

Use your ears to learn jazz solos, fiddle tunes, math rock, indigenous music, classical pieces, Lady Gaga, ... Whatever grooves you, this app will help
you develop your listening ability.

Learn That Song comes in two flavours - REMIX and PLAY. Both of them have similar features and share the same look and feel.

Use REMIX Edition to change the speed, key, or tuning of the song; it has high quality sound adjustments.

Use PLAY Edition to work with playlists or streaming Apple Music songs. It’s like a remote control for the Music app, so you can start playing there and
finish here!

Both will be useful on your musical journey.

Accessibility Comments

This is essentially a remote control for the Apple Music app. As such it will work on music you have downloaded to your device, as well as streaming content from Apple Music. It's companion app in the transcriber bundle, Learn That (Remix,) must me used for high quality pitch and tempo changes and will only work on music that has been downloaded to your device.

To use the app you set the in and out points of the loop by double tapping on those buttons as a song is playing. But the unique feature is that once it's created you can shift it forward or back in the song. So once it's the right length for the chorus it will probably work on the verse as well. This makes it very easy to learn material on the fly. You can also speed up or slow down the track. You can also save loops and regions in different songs and jump between them instantly. I hope to do a podcast on this in the near future. In the original version all the buttons had cryptic file names that were not meant to be read by the user, but in the current version all of this has been addressed.
One button called volume root module is actually the airplay button, but this is a minor inconvenience. the developer said this is an Apple control and the label can't be edited.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads all page elements.

Button Labeling

All buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

The app is fully accessible with VoiceOver and is easy to navigate and use.

Other Comments

As with most of these apps this was created by a one man operation. The developer has been absolutely fantastic, and has committed to do his best to make all his apps accessible to Voiceover. These include a metrinome called Ticker, Quick Recorder, and iLift Remix, a part of the iLift Transcriber bundle. I helped to test this app under Test Flight, and within a week he created this new version with hints for key features and all buttons clearly labeled. I want to thank Resanno personally for joining our community.

The version Reginald refers to has been released today and I think it's a huge improvement over its predecessor. All the buttons are labelled (and available in French too) and there is now a specific order of elements for VoiceOver to navigate (not simply the visual layout). These changes also apply to the REMIX edition of the app, which is updated today as well.

Also important and somewhat related to accessibility: the name has been changed from "iLift" to "Learn That Song" - I think it's easier to pronounce and understand. If you're opening it with VoiceOver, the device names for the two editions are "Learn That Song (Play Edition)" and "Learn That Song (Remix Edition)".

I'm new to VoiceOver but I want to ensure all my apps are as accessible as possible - three down and one to go! Feel free to send any feedback.

@djmacradio: Added some codes to the previous post.

Thank you for adding VoiceOver support to your app. I'm learning to play a keyboard and this app will be great for repeating parts of songs I'm trying to work out. I used one of your posted promo codes for the play version of your app.

Hi. Just downloaded this app, and it is great. However, most of my songs are from Apple Music, and I can't play them. Could you add in the next update a way so that apple music songs can be played as well? Just a suggestion.

Hi Igna,

The REMIX Edition is not able to access unpurchased songs from Apple Music because only Apple apps are allowed to do so. I hope Apple will change this policy in the future.

If you are listening to your song inside the Music app and then open the PLAY Edition, you can do looping on Apple Music tracks. Right now there seems to be a bug that sometimes crashes the app when playing streaming songs, but I'm looking into it.

Hi Rosano, could you give me a promo code for learn that song play edition? I tried the promo codes that you posted here, but they were all used. My email is

Thanks.

Hi Jim, in both the Play and Remix Editions it works the same way.

Once you have created a loop with your in and out points, here is how you save it:
1. Tap the button 'Show Extended Loop Controls'. This will hide the normal looping buttons and show the buttons for managing multiple loops.
2. Tap the button 'New Region'. This will save your current loop as a region that can be used later for looping.
3. Repeat this process as many times as you like to save multiple loops.

Once you have saved multiple loops as regions, here is how you load them:
1. Make sure to show the extended loop controls as before.
2. Tap the button 'Next Region' or 'Previous Region'. This will overwrite the current loop with the points of the following or preceding region.

I think even without voiceover it can feel a bit complicated initially, so I definitely could improve the design for everyone. For now the best I can do is answer any questions you have.

If you send a message from the app I can help you directly: Tap the button 'About This App' and then select 'Send Feedback'.
