Reviewing apps based fully or in part on accessibility

By Chris Foster, 15 February, 2012

I am curious as to whether when you review apps in the app store/iTunes, do you base your reviews partially or in full on how accessible or in accessible the app is? Do you give more or fewer stars based on accessibility? And, do you comment directly on accessibility if you choose to submit a written review? And lastly, if you have commented directly on accessibility, have you ever been contacted by either Apple or the app developer? Thanks, Chris Foster

Well, for myself. I do go in to those ratings and make a submission based on my experience with that app. Yes, my stars will be based on how accessible it is for me along how well the app is written. I have and do leave comments about how I wish or how wonderful voice over works on the app. I have not personally been contacted by anyone based on my rating submission. I believe that the developer has no way to reply to those comments we leave in the Rating submission. So for me it is a one two punch by leaving an e-mail with the developer if they could help out and also post a rating. The Campaign of the Month on AppleVis is a great idea but I also like to see each and everyone of us also leave low stars on the apps. Gives them the idea we are here and would love for them to help us out. If they are very responsive I am gladly to go back and give them a better rating. Some people think this may be a bad idea because we look like we are whining about us. To me it isn't about being selfish and the developers that do care would respond to those ideas of ours. Those that don't I think it is only fair to rate them low. That's just me. Everyone is free to do what they want to do.
