Any apps with good verbal descriptions of pilates/yoga positions?

Hi,

So been attempting the pilates stuff on apple fitness though, even with audio descriptions, it's beyond me. Feel I need a better handle on the basics before entering into a guided workout.

Are any of you aware of a good app that goes through these positions without relying on a visual aspect? I believe there is an audio only workout app, but think that also relies on images at some point for yoga etc.

Thanks

Ollie

Sue Fuller on Audible.

Hi Oliver, They aren’t audio described or blind specific but Sue fullers yoga series on Audible are designed to be audio first. It’s a yoga series in audio format so there’s no expectation you would be able to see the instructor so things are described very clearly indeed. There are PDF’s but they really aren’t required as the descriptions are so good. If you did try it, there are 1 hour books on audible but then you’ll see 3+ hour versions of a similar thing, the 3 hour ones are 3 of the 1 hour books aggregated into 1 book so always get the 3+ hour ones and not the single hour otherwise you’ll use a credit for something you’ll likely buy again later in the aggregated version. So I found her books maybe 6 years ago and only went to my first actual class last year. I’ve been only using her books from the start. In my first class the instructor was completely blown away and said I had by far the best alignment and flexibility of anyone she’d taught and all that without using anything but the sue fuller books, they aren’t designed for blind people but they work very well for that purpose because they are designed audio first instead of visually. They are also very good yoga classes with a wide range from beginner to intermediate, restorative yin and vinyasa. I’m not sure of your fitness level but if its quite low you might want to start with the restorative yoga classes and if its higher maybe the beginner. The restorative requires very little flexibility compared to the rest although strangely its the hardest one for me emotionally. One in specific, I find very challenging because it makes me feel very emotional indeed in a way nothing else ever has in my life. If you would like more info, just ask and I’d be happy to help. I have had so much benefit from her yoga classes that I went to the trouble of finding her phone number and calling her to say thanks as yoga came along for me at the hardest time in my life and made such an enormous difference. I hope you enjoy.

Actually already found this a few years back. She's very descriptive and got a few of her classes.

I think I'm looking for something more specificly a means of saying what 'puppy pose' is in pilates, or 'child's pose' in yoga are, as an example. I imagine there are probably more yoga apps than pilates.

I use DownDog. The app itself is a little hard to use initially with voiceover but once you get going the full description option is good enough for me for daily use. The descriptions are much better than Apple fitness. I had someone already using the app set it up for me initially and so it was easy for me to start.
