Misleading sound and haptic feedback when deleting characters in some text fields

Category
VoiceOver Announcements/Feedback
Severity
Minor

Description

When using the keyboard to delete text in a text field, as each character is deleted the audible and haptic feedback provided to VoiceOver users is that which normally indicates that you have reached the start of the text field and that no further text is available to delete (or that you have reached a boundary when swiping to move VoiceOver focus through screen elements).

This behaviour does not appear to be present in all text fields. One example of where it is present is the address bar in Safari.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Ensure that both Sounds and Haptics are enabled in Settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver > Audio > Sounds & Haptics.
  2. Open Safari.
  3. Place VoiceOver focus in the address bar.
  4. If the address bar is empty, type some text.
  5. If necessary, place VoiceOver focus at the end of the text.
  6. Use the onscreen keyboard to delete text one character at a time.

You should find that the sound and haptic feedback for each deletion is that which normally indicates you have deleted the first character in the text field.
