MarsEdit - the blog editor for WordPress, Tumblr, Blogger and more.

Description of App

MarsEdit is the #1 desktop blog editor for the Mac.
The best way to write, preview, and publish your blog.

Compatible with Mac OS X 10.6 and 10.7 "Lion".

Works with WordPress, Blogger, Tumblr, Squarespace, TypePad, Movable Type and dozens more through standard MetaWeblog and AtomPub interfaces.

Browser-based interfaces are slow, clumsy, and require you to be connected to the internet just to use them. Browsers are perfect for reading web content, but not so great for creating it.

If you're serious about your blog, you need a desktop blog editor. If you're lucky enough to have a Mac, nothing is more powerful or more elegant than MarsEdit.

Coming to the Mac from Windows? MarsEdit is similar to Live Writer, the popular Windows blog editor.

This app is fully accessible. Except for the ordering of blogs, but you can accomplish that with a drag and drop

If you want to order blogs in ABC order you must drag and drop. the author and I are in discussion on how to accomplish this better but we have come on a stumbling block. Any ideas would be helpful. I'll include the website from which you can find their email address in this post.

Hi! Will Marsedit work when I have a wordpress.org blog on a website? Can I save drafts as HTML-documents or save them on the blog as a draft, so I can work with it across devices such as my iPhone and my Mac? Can I use Marsedit for helping with creating the HTML-code lik inserting links, headings etc. like a HTML-editor? Thanks in advance for your help on this. Best regards Thomas

I noticed that the last post about this app is over a year old. I was thinking of designing a website through squarespace and was wondering about how accessible this app still is and how blind-friendly squarespace's site is as well. Any help with both or either topic would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! :)

I noticed that this app was compared to Live Writer for Windows. I'm just wondering if it is accessible and if so, how accessible? I'm hoping to get my blind bloggers using it on Windows and Mars Edit on Mac if it is accessible.

hello, there is a bookmarklet on the marsedit page, which should be dragged to the bookmark bar, so that it can be used in any page, to post currently visited page on the blog.
But it seems not to be draggable with VoiceOvers drag and drop commands. Any idea?
P.S. - how to embed a youtube video on a post with marsedit, is it possible with or without shortcodes?
Thanks

I think you can add the bookmarklet by copying the link. As for embedding I don't think that is possible. I can do
Photoes, but not videos.

I just started my 30-day trial of MarsEdit a few nights ago. I configured it to work with my journal, and it is going great. However, my main purpose for trying out this app was to see if it was compatible with the blog for my job as well as another blog on which I was asked to post something. Although the configuration settings of MarsEdit are accessible, it doesn't appear to be compatible with these 2 blogs for some reason. Prior to trying the app I didn't have a good feeling about the compatibility issue, and it turns out my suspicion was confirmed. It's really a shame that these other blogs are set up the way they are, but that's a rant for another time and place. But like I mentioned MarsEdit seems to get along great with Dreamwidth. Hopefully the paid version is as good as or better than the trial version. All buttons and fields are read very nicely with VoiceOver, and I had no trouble configuring the app. A question arose when I tried out the rich-text editor, but I think I'll figure that one out. Some sort of help documentation would be nice, but perhaps it's there and I haven't found it yet. Definitely recommending this app though. Update: I emailed the developer of this app yesterday regarding the compatibility issue, and he got right back to me early this morning. I checked to see if the old WordPress blog for my job was still around and fortunately it is. But it hasn't been updated since early 2011. So I tried configuring it to work with MarsEdit, but no go.

Hi everybody. I'm back to let y'all know that I successfully purchased a copy of MarsEdit once my trial expired. Actually my father helped me make this purchase, but not due to any accessibility issues. As a matter of fact, I was able to navigate the registration dialog and everything with VoiceOver and had no trouble. I copy/pasted the unlock code, and within minutes I had the full version. I haven't had that much time with it thus far, but I can honestly say that it is just as good as the trial version. Perhaps even better, but only time will tell on that one. I guess the fact that the developer of this app is a former Apple employee, paid off.

Does this app only work on a Mac desktop/laptop or will it also work on an IPhone? IPad?

Hi there - I am the developer of MarsEdit. Currently it is available only for Mac but I am interested in developing a version for iOS one day. Thanks for the interest.
