BeSpecular is the best way to do a good deed so that even when you have a busy schedule, you can help someone who’s blind. As a blind/visually impaired
person, you can ask text/voice questions and receive quick replies that are friendly and helpful.

Do you want to help/volunteer in your community, but you don’t have the time?
Helping your community should be simple, convenient, and fun.
Now you can help someone who’s blind by using your smartphone. You can spend a few seconds listening to the question, look at the picture(s), and reply
with a friendly voice note or text message.

This is a pretty fantastic app to use when you need help. This offers a very unique and simple process to get somebody to help you out on something you need. I love the fact that you will and can get multiple of responses to your questions. It gives you a variety of different answers to get that aquestion answered that you want and need. Give ranking to the people that are helping you out. We have seen several apps in the past that offers similair offering but this is hands down the best for me. Using this with BeMyEyes just gives me that feeling that I have a place to go when I need help to get something done that can only be done by people with vision.

I used to have Be My Eyes on my phone, but after a couple of encouraging uses, I could never get anyone to help me, but, so far, responses using BeSpecular have always been reasonably prompt and every responder answered my questions.

For me BeSpecular has replaced Be My Eyes.

I have realised that when we register for the app, there is a place where you must fill in a sort of bio. Apparently this is not necessary, but still, if you should do so, Who can read it? Is it only for the site Administration people, or can sighted people also read it?

I managed to make an account, and log in, but I just want to ask a question, not send any photos. Is there a way of just asking my question? The options are take a photo, and to upload it, but not to send a voice message or something else. Thanks

You have to upload photo first before you can ask a question. This is a photo identification service after-all..

The only time I'd want to send a question without a picture would be to the app's developers, which you should be able to do from their web site.

Love this app, on a rare occasion I've had the play reply button not show up even when I doubletap on the person's reply. Not sure if this is a bug or why it will sometimes do this.

Now that I've had this app for a while and had several opportunities to put it to use, I thought I'd update my thoughts on this great and wonderful app.

One of the app's best features is the ability to rate the responses. BeMyEyes didn't have this so jerks could do a fair amount of damage before the app's administrators could kick them off. With BeSpecular's rating system jerks are discouraged from even trying because I would imagine that anyone that gets consistently bad reviews will very quickly be kicked out.

For example, I am preparing to attempt to build a plastic model of a working V8 engine. When I'm not working on it, I wanted to display the box. I used BeSpecular to ask if the box was right side up so that the image on the front would be correctly oriented. I got 5 replies before I stopped them, all but one said that it was right side up. I rephrased my question to be sure there was no misunderstanding of what I was asking to determine which was correct. That one reply that was wrong got a very disappointing rating.

Also, I only got to use BeMyEyes once. That one use was very encouraging, but unfortunately, after that I could never get anyone to respond to my requests for assistance. I don't care how good an app might be, if you can't use it, it isn't of any value.

I don't often have a need for help using BeSpecular, but the four times I've needed it, I always got a prompt and helpful response. I like that this app is free, but like TapTapSee before it also became free, I'd be more than willing to pay a subscription for this app similar to the way TapTapSee used to be if the money went to the people providing assistance.

I just downloaded this app tonight, and I can’t wait to try it out. Is it limited to just products? What I mean is let’s say I’m out with a group of friends and I want to take a picture of all of us if I try to do that, is it OK if I send that to them afterwards and ask whether I got anyone in the picture?

I just send picks, ask questions, get answers and that's it. So far, I've had no trouble. Just make sure to be clear in your questions, so they know exactly what you want to know.

I adjusted my screen brightness to zero. So that I will not use up battery when I’m on apps such as Netflix etc. My question is does my screen brightness affect the cameras ability to take pictures? For the specular?

Hi Khushi! As mention above the app is still in the AppStore and is currently free. This page hasn't been updated simply because the app hasn't been updated since 2017. But I will update to reflect that it still works on iOS 13.x.
