On the way to being accessible
Somewhat out of the blue, the Tweetlogix developers have explicitly addressed accessibiity issues in the latest update.
There still appear to be some issues, most notably not being able to access usernames mentioned in tweets or hashtags if there is also a link, and VoiceOver not reading timestamps and the bio information on user profiles, but this is now quite close to being a real option for VoiceOVer users.
What's New in Version 1.9.9
- Trend definitions are now optional (Settings > Services > Trend Definitions)
- Tapping avatar on individual tweets offers a choice to open profile or image
- Improved VoiceOver support
- Composed tweet automatically saved to drafts if app is shutdown
- Error message now displayed if photo cannot be saved due to iOS 6 privacy settings
- Removed mentions retweet filter (Twitter is no longer returning retweets in mentions)
- Fixed problem opening profile locations in iOS 6Fixed problem causing corrupted icons in iOS 6
More accessibility fixes in 2.0
I've still to test this new version thoroughly, but my initial experiences are very encouraging. I might even be getting close to calling this fully accessible.
What's New in Version 2.0
Tweetlogix 2.0 has arrived with universal support for iPad and iPhone! This update has been a long time in the making and I'm happy to release it as one universal app. Thanks to everyone who has helped make Tweetlogix successful. Enjoy Tweetlogix on iPad.
Note that Twitter will begin changing to their new 1.1 API on March 5th. Tweetlogix 2.0 is ready for this change. Please be sure to upgrade to Tweetlogix 2.0 prior to March 5th. Earlier Tweetlogix versions will no longer function after Twitter completes its API changes.

Bug Fixes

Changes for Twitter Display Requirements and Terms of Service
- Removed user display name setting
- Retweet action is disabled for tweets posted by protected Twitter users
- Photo and video sharing actions are disabled when composing direct messages
Note that the Twitter 1.1 API introduces changes in Twitter rate limiting. Previously, Twitter permitted each user to perform up to 350 operations per hour. With Twitter 1.1, the rate limit varies depending upon the type of operation being performed and resets every 15 minutes. For example, Twitter now permits 15 home timeline refreshes every 15 minutes.
You can monitor your Twitter rate limits by navigating to Profile > Twitter Rate Limits. A new setting is also provided if you prefer to disable rate limit error reporting. To help reduce the likelihood of exceeding Twitter 1.1 rate limits, the minimum auto refresh interval has been increased to 5 minutes.
Also note that Twitter's 1.1 API no longer supports "Retweets to Me" and "Retweets by Me" which were previously available in My Profile. An alternative way to find retweets posted by yourself is to navigate to Profile > Tweets where you can find all of your tweets and retweets.
Further findings on version 2.0
I've now had more of an opportunity to play with this latest update, and the good news is that my first impressions were mostly right and this is now very usable with VoiceOver.
Timelines, profiles, composing, lists, DMs all seem to be fully accessible. Tweets are read in full, along with timestamps.
On the list of accounts, VoiceOver still won't read the additional information that my limited residual vision tells me is there (not enough to tell me what it actually is, though), but I am assuming that it is information that is also available on your actual profile page. If it is simply telling you stats such as the number of followers, tweets and so on, then this is available and accessible on your profile page.
When you swipe across a tweet (akin to the swipe to delete gesture) a number of icons appear below the tweet. These are not found by VoiceOver. Again, I don't know what these icons actually do, but I am assuming that they give access to some of the options that you can also access by simply double-tapping on the tweet. This takes you to a page which has links to the poster's profile, the tweet, all the options that you would need, and the conversation if there is one. Everything on this page appears to be accessible. The only minor quirk is if you double-tap on the body of the tweet, in which case what happens appears to depend upon the content of that tweet. If it has a single hashtag, username or link, it will do something appropriate to that. However, if it has a number of these, I think it defaults to an action based upon the first one that it finds. Again, this is not a major problem, as buttons below the tweet body give access to links, hashtags, user profiles, and so on.
All in all, the improvements are very encouraging, and I'm looking forward to seeing some further tweaks in the next update.
Some of the new features in this app are also quite neat - for example, the various muting options and information about your remaining Twitter rate limits.
2.0.1 fixes 1 more problem
The latest update fixes 1 more of the outstanding accessibility problems:
What's New in Version 2.0.1
- Re-introduced user display name setting
- Fixed missing undo retweet actions
- Fixed DM authorization for imported iOS accounts
- Fixed incorrect badge when switching timelines
- Fixed problem computing remaining chars in Compose view
- Improved VoiceOver for Accounts view
- Rate limit errors from Twitter are silently ignored
An upcoming 2.1 update will also introduce Wi-Fi streaming timeline refresh. This will help reduce problems due to Twitter's new 1.1 API rate limits.
I'm using an iphone 4s, and
love this app
since tweet list has stopped being developed, I have switched over to this as my go to twitter app on the iPhone.
how to bring up actions?
hi all, great app but how can I bring up tweet actions for each tweet without going into each tweet everytime? has anyone contacted the devsabout this issue?
Accessibility Comments
Earlier versions of this app had enough accessibility issues to make it unusable with VoiceOver. However, the developers have done a great job of addressing these, and the app now appears to be completely accessible. Sighted users are able to swipe across a tweet to give quick access to some controls. Although you can replicate this gesture with VoiceOver, the controls are not recognized by VoiceOver. However, as all of these controls are available on the page that you are taken to when double-tapping on a tweet, I do not see this as a reason to mark this app down in terms of accessibility, as all of the functionality and features of the app are still available to VoiceOver users.
