Seidio BD4-PBYIPH4-GR Innocell Plus Power Case for Apple iPhone 4/4S

Posted on Saturday 20 April 2013

There seems no section on applevis for external batteries and the item is both, though the prime purpose is as a battery; the case is only to make both the Iphone and battery one compact unit.

Warning: this message is longer than an east-bound grain train at harvest!

The power pack I will be discussing for the IPhone 4S is also available for the IPhone 5. The model is I believe rather steeply priced at present at $71 Canadian. The unit I purchased is:

seidio bd4-pbyiph4-gr innocell

Decent information on the model I purchased can be found at:

JBL Flip Bluetooth Speaker Review

Posted on Friday 29 March 2013

I recently just purchased the JBL Flip Bluetooth speaker, and am very surprised by it's size, and it's sound.
The JBL Flip is a portable Bluetooth speaker with outstanding sound for it's size.
I will first try and describe the speaker, and how it looks.
First off, the speaker is more cylindrical than anything else, with the back pinched, to make room for the base that lets you set the speaker horizontally. This thing is probably as big as an energy drink can. Probably a little wider, but not much taller, if you stand the speaker the same way as you would a 16 ounce Monster or Rockstar can.

Withings iScale and BP monitor

Posted on Wednesday 29 August 2012

I had been using IBP, an accessible app for monitoring blood pressure. It permits manual entries, and it interfaces with the Withings BP monitor and body weight scale. I purchased both and discovered that an additional app called iScale must be installed. iScale is only marginally usable with Voiceover. You can weigh yourself or take your blood pressure and read it on the iPhone without much difficulty, but most of the features are totally inaccessible or very difficult to use without sight. The Withings website is horribly inaccessible with JAWS. The scale and BP monitor themselves are not difficult to use. Once the WiFi scale has been set up, which definitely requires sighted help, you simply step on the scale, and your weight is transmitted to the website and the iPhone app.

Music Bullet Mini Portable Speaker for iPhone, iPod and iPad

Posted on Tuesday 28 August 2012

The Magic Bullet speaker is a very small, mainly round, circular like object.

It can even pop up to enhance the depth of sound quality some what. Just expand the retractable cable and plug in to any standard headphone port and your ready to listen.

I got it at Walmart for around $15. It comes with a micro USB charging cable.

This small portable speaker produces very nice sound for its size. It can play content louder than the built-in speakers of iPhones and iPods.

The rechargeable battery lasts up to 7 hours according to the instructions on the box.

I rather enjoy this little gadget, and plan to take it on trips with me in the car. It also can serve as a very nice loud speaker phone for calls with no feedback.

Bose SoundLink Wireless Mobile Speaker

Posted on Monday 30 July 2012

This is a wireless rechargeable bluetooth speaker for iOS devices. It has really good sound quality, but is pricy compared to a lot of the bluetooth speakers on the market. It retails for $299 at most stores, but can be found at amazon for $249.99. It has six buttons on the speaker, all of which are on the top. Going from left to right, on/off just press this button and it powers the speaker on, the next button is the pairing button, hold this button for about five seconds until your iOS device sees it in the bluetooth list. Unfortunately, there's no audible feedback when the sound link is in pairing mode. The third button switches from bluetooth mode to line-in mode, Then there's a space the size of the buttons separating the left set of buttons from the right set.

Jawbone JAMBOX Wireless Bluetooth Speaker

Posted on Monday 30 July 2012

This is a rechargeable bluetooth speaker for iOS devices. It's very small, it's about 6 inches long, give or take. The pairing process is very simple, you just flip the switch on the right side of the unit and hold it. It gives spoken feedback to tell you it's in pairing mode. In the box, it comes with a 6-foot mini usb connector cable which connects the unit to the computer or to the included AC-usb piece. There's also a flimsy-looking auxiliary in cable that comes with the speaker to attach non-bluetooth devices, but so far, my cable has held up for almost a year. It has such good sound for the small package, it definitely fills a small-medium room with sound.

AirStash, USB pen drive and iPhone-iPad extra storage

Posted on Monday 11 June 2012

AirStash looks like a normal pendrive: rectangular shape, with a cover that must be removed from the bottom side, to reveal the USB connector, and inserted again if USB is not used.
In the middle there is the button, the unique button, used to turn wi-fi mode on and off.
The top side has a slot for a normal SD card, it supports classic SD cards up to 32GB, and if a micro-SD is used, the small card must be inserted into its adapter, to turn it into a SD, before inserting it into the airstash; this object does not work at all without a SD inserted! It's not a pendrive itself, but the sd stores data. This means, it can be also transported and inserted into the mac's sd reader if desired.

Line 6 Mobile In Audio Interface for iOS

Posted on Thursday 31 May 2012

The Line6 Mobile In Continues the jaw dropping concept of all this? from your pocket?

though it's outer casing is made of plastic, it feels pretty stirty. About the size and feel of a Compact Flash CF Card Case, it has two 8th inch input jacks: (Stereo Line in, and instrument level) on the front, and a doc connector on the rear. It's long enough to plug into a device even in an otterbox style case. It comes with a cable which converts from 8th inch to quarter inch, which is good, because I was quite confused when I pulled the unit alone out of the box, knowing that it's primary use is for guitarests running electric guitars directly into an IDevice.

The Pros:

RAVPower rp-pb03 5600mah external battery

Posted on Thursday 17 May 2012

This charger is pretty simple and easy to use. Its a 5600mah and I found that I could fully charge my iPhone three times before having to recharge the Ravpower. It also comes with a variety of different plugs to use with other phones. They also included two usb cables of different sizes so you don't have to worry if you lose one cable, you will have an extra backup. Another neat feature is the built in flashlight which actually has some good strength and projection. And lastly I found that it has like a strobe light that flashes well in the dark and helps you locate it.

Some cons:it does take significantly longer for the ravpower to charge my phone than my wall charger. so i only give 4 stars.

The PowerGen External Battery Pack 5200mAh High Capacity Power Bank

Posted on Sunday 1 April 2012

The PowerGen External Battery Pack is not an iOS device specific charger, which can be viewed as a draw-back or an advantage. The battery pack was designed to essentially charge anything that has the ability to charge via USB. It comes with a multitude of adapters for plugging in to such devices as an iOS product, any number of Droid devices, GPS Receivers, and just about anything else you can charge via USB. While the documentation is not available digitally, which is the reason it gets 4 stars, it's not really necessary

New Trent Arcadia Pack IMP70D 7000mAh external battery

Posted on Thursday 1 March 2012

When I travel I have been using the New Trent Battery to keep my iPhone and other USB powered devices charged up. It has two USB ports so I can charge my iPhone and my Bluetooth headset at the same time. The battery is about the size of the iPhone 4, and turns on with the press of a button. If nothing is connected or the charge cycle is done the battery will turn off automatically.
I found this product works quite well and I don’t have to replace my case or make my iPhone overly thick.
I got my New Trent IMP70D from The AT Guys for $49.99.

As advertised on the web, the Apple TV comes with VoiceOver. Enabling VoiceOver on the Apple TV without sighted assistance is easy: Connect the device via HDMI to your TV or AV-Receiver.  Make sure the appropriate port is choosen on your TV or AV-Receiver so that you can hear audio coming from it once its booted.  Then connect the power to the Apple TV and wait for it to boot.

Once its finished it will announce to you that you are supposed to press the lower right button three times to enable VoiceOver.

Once thats done, the setup process is spoken as well.  Once you choose a language, the VoiceOver language will automatically adapt.

If VoiceOver is enabled, it will speak all the on-screen menu items as you scroll through them.
