AudioLabels

Description of App

AudioLabels helps visually impaired persons to recognize objects through an audio description associated to barcodes or QR codes.

AudioLabels works in two simple steps:

  1. Point your camera towards a label with a bar code or a QR code. If you have not yet entered a description for that code, AudioLabels will ask you to do that, typing or simply talking.
  2. When you point again the camera towards that label, AudioLabels will read the description.

The objects you want to recognize do not have a printed bar code or QR code (like the CD with your files)? Don't worry: with AudioLabels you can receive your custom labels by email so you can print and stick them on every object you want to recognize.

Use AudioLabels to recognize boxes, DVDs, clothes, paper documents, etc.

Please note

  • AudioLabels is compatible with iOS 5 or later.
  • AudioLabels is fully accessible with VoiceOver.
  • AudioLabels recognizes bar codes EAN8, EAN13, UPCA, UPCE and QR codes.
  • The custom labels we send by email are QR codes in the form of a PDF file containing 88 labels in a single sheet. Cutting the QR codes may require the help of a sighted person. Alternatively, we suggest contacting a printing house.
  • Depending on the use, we suggest printing the custom labels on different kinds of paper, like sticky paper (e.g., for DVDs) or on washable paper (e.g., for items of clothing).

Accessibility Comments

Very neat app and fully accessible.

The app took a little while to recognize some barcodes, but the process is automatic, so thankfully you don't have to make sure that the barcode is located in a certain area of the screen.

The app gives you some handy prompts to guide you through using it, making adding audio labels very easy.

The only problem I encountered wasn't related to accessibility - the app crashes each time I double-tap on the button to add labels from email.

Highly recommended.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads all page elements.

Button Labelling

All buttons are clearly labelled.

Usability

The app is fully accessible with VoiceOver and is easy to navigate and use.
