Description of App

Echofon for Twitter
By naan studio, Inc.

Description (from App Store):
Echofon is an easy to use, super-fast Twitter app for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

It’s easy to do common Twitter tasks such as viewing your timeline, messages, replies, lists and favorites. Echofon has a powerful tweet-authoring where you can write tweets, take photos, record video (3GS only) and update your current location.

When another Echofon user (iPhone or desktop) sends you a Direct Message or @reply, you can be notified instantly via push notification. Get your friends to use Echofon and you can send Twitter messages instead of SMS!

Keep up with what’s happening on Twitter with Echofon’s search tools. You can search Twitter, view trending topics (with explanations), nearby tweets and find users easily from the search tab.

#1 Works well but is sometimes bound to lag

Submitted by marrie (not verified) on 3 August 2010.

This ap works very well but in my case unless you set the refresh rate to none causes the app and voice over to lag and take you for example to the bottom of the window when you are flicking left. I'm still testing my theory though.

#2 where's the tweet or compose button?

Submitted by Toonhead on 28 March 2012.

I'm giving this app a try and I absolutely love the interface, it's nice and clean and it does exactly everything I need it to do, especially push notifications, which is key. I know Boxcar is great, but I don't want to have to install an app just for push stuff. Anyways, what I noticed is there's a compose button, but it's only in the area where your dm's are, so I'm not sure how to actually use this app just yet. I love the way the app works though.

#3 Top right corner, but ...

There should be a button labelled 'Compose' in the top right corner of both the Home and Mentions pages that you use to post a new tweet.

However, if this is similar to the Pro version I really wouldn't invest too much time and effort into this app, as it's been a long time since it was fully usable with VoiceOver and the developers have shown no interest in addressing this.

If you never need to tap on a hashtag, username or link, then I guess you can just about use the current version, but TweetList, Twitterrific or the official Twitter app all offer a far more complete and satisfying experience for VoiceOver users.

#4 Depends what you want from your app

Submitted by Clare Page on 29 March 2012.

Hi! In the previous comment we were told that there are several far more better apps for Twitter on i-devices than Echofon, but, as far as I'm concerned, that depends on what you want out of your Twitter app. Admittedly, I do most of my tweeting, and reading tweets, on the computer, and not on my iPhone 4S, but I personally find that Echofon meets my needs when I do want to use Twitter on my iPhone: I like Echofon's interface better than the interface of the official Twitter app, I can read tweets and DMs and mentions and reply to them, and I have push notifications in Echofon, which I know Tweetlist doesn't have. So, for basic Twitter use on i-devices, like mine is on the rare occasions I use Twitter on my phone, Echofon is fine. I admit that Twitter for iPhone and Echofon are the only two IOS apps for Twitter I have tried, but I am personally happy with Echofon and will stick with it. However, we can all be thankful that there is plenty of choice as regards Twitter apps, even accessible ones, since we can't all like the same things.
