Description of App

By Klaus Thul

From itunes store:

CC-CEDICT dictionary with over 70.000 entries - no Internet connection required.

The advanced search technology implemented into KTdict C-E shows you instant as-you-type search results. You can search using English, Chinese characters (simplified and traditional) and Hanyu Pinyin. Combined with the Chinese handwriting recognition build into iPhone OS, this is the perfect tool for every student of Chinese or foreigner living in China.

Accessibility Comments

The data itself are accessible if you set the rotar to 'character' and go carefully over the new words. since it is based on the cedict material, everything is text. Hurrah for those old text based applications! They did change the cedict tone numbers (which I liked!) to diacritics on the vowels in the dictionary display, so FYI: macro = tone 1, acute = rising tone 2, caran = tone 3 and grave = falling tone 4. You can still search using the tone numbers though, thank goodness! I have had some trouble with the interface, but simple things work. Get good at the four finger move to the top of the screen since like the old cedict dictionary, it just dumps tons of data at you: dozens if not hundreds of screens sometimes. Get ready to flick or scroll! I'll try the paid version with flash cards if I get some indication the developer is interested in VoiceOver compatibility.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads all page elements.

Button Labelling

Most buttons are clearly labelled.

Usability

There are some minor accessibility issues with this app, but they are easy to deal with.

Other Comments

I'm hoping for good news with the next upgrade.
