#2 notesy
HI. thank you. Ihaven't tried this app yet, but It's lovely to have a developer who is supportive of an app being accessible.
#3 You're welcome
HI Maria,
I'd love to know about any issues with the VoiceOver support in Notesy. My email is support at notesy-app.com
Here's a link to 10 promo codes for Notesy for anyone who's able to try it out and send me feedback:
http://pastebin.com/XxN3juFe
If you go to the iTune Store there's a link labelled "Redeem" at the very bottom.
If you enter one of those promo codes it should give you a free download of Notesy.
Notesy is most useful when you use it along with Dropbox on your computer(s) or other iOS devices. There's a video on the dropbox.com site that explains it better than I can.
Cheers,
Dave
#4 A couple of issues
So far I have encountered a couple of issues with this app.
The first is with the info page. This is supposed to show you various stats about a note, such as the number of words, lines, paragraphs and characters, along with the dates the note was created and last modified. VoiceOver reads the labels and descriptions for each of these stats, but doesn't read the stat itself.
The second issue is more fundamental for me. If you flick to enter a note body VoiceOver reads the whole of the contents. However, if you tap into the note body VoiceOver just reads the line that you happen to have tapped on. This would be great if the next flick were to take me to the next or previous line, but unfortunately it takes you out of the note body. For larger notes this is a major flaw, as it makes it impossible to navigate quickly to the specific area of a note that you are interested in. Fix this, and the app becomes far more useful and useable.
But, as previously mentioned, it is great to see a developer taking a proactive interest in the accessibility of their apps.
#5 Info page
The latest update has fixed the issue with the note info page, which is now read in full by VoiceOver.
#6 App not moving by paragraph when flicking through a note
I really do think this is either a problem with VoiceOver or txt files. While word processors like Word or Jarte can understand that new lines mean paragraph breaks, maybe VoiceOver uses something different or more complex, such as markup. I have no idea. Anyhow, I've noticed the same thing happens with other notes apps that sync via Dropbox, such as Notebooks and Plain Text. Other than that, the developer is very, very open to feedback, either in general or specific concerns related to VoiceOver access. I'm a beta tester for Notesy, and the dev has done a great job! It means a lot to me that the app dev is very open to making his app accessible to visually impaired!
