as described in the iTunes app store. VisionHunt(TM) v2.5 is a vision aid tool for the blind and the visually impaired that uses the phone’s camera to detect colors, paper money and light sources. In brief, VisionHunt identifies about 30 colors. It also detects the 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 US Dollar bills. Finally, VisionHunt detects sources of light, such as switched-on lamps or televisions. Accessibility Comments

AppleVis Editor Note: this app was submitted before Usability Ratings were introduced, so one has been chosen on the basis of the accessibility comments made by the original poster. If you have used this app, please post a comment to let us know if you agree with the Rating.

Original Comments: This app only works with iPhone, and iPod touch 4g, since you need a camera. This app is completely accessible, but it takes a lot of practice to read paper money, and you have to be in an area that offers a lot of light for it to work, same for the color reader.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads all page elements.

Button Labeling

All buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

There are some accessibility issues with this app, but it can still be used if you are willing to tolerate these issues and learn how to work around them.

#1 Buy for later

This app has been problematic at best from the beginning. I visited their webpage and it looks like the camera problems they are having may not be fixed until iOs 5 comes out. I purchased this app when it was $20 and could not have been more disappointed.
Even in the bright California sun it kept responding that the light was too dim.
If you buy it you may have to put it aside for a while.

#3 Other suggestions to try

Here are some other optional apps that will try to identify the color for you. A note of warnig that there is no such thing as a perfect color identification app. I typically will find about a 80% accuracy. However, dark colors I have lower accuracy. Best results are done with the 4 and 4s. 3gs are poor with poor results due to lack of lighting.
