Accessibility Comments

This was one of those apps that I approached with very low expectations in terms of accessibility. The screenshots of pages loaded with complext facts and figures just seem to cry out inaccessible.

But no, it is mostly fine. A few buttons could be labelled more clearly, but nothing too bad. VoiceOver also works fine, although this is one of those apps where some of the text elements are read in reverse order, which can make some of the information a little confusing at first. I gather that this is a problem common to many apps under iOS4, so hopefully it will be corrected in the next firmware update.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads all page elements.

Button Labeling

Most buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

There are some minor accessibility issues with this app, but they are easy to deal with.

#1 Changed my mind

Submitted by Janner on 24 August, 2010 - 07:01.

A couple of weeks into the new season, and I am forced to rethink my earlier comments that I could live with VoiceOver reading things in reverse order in this app. It is now officially driving me crazy!

Because of what this app does - presenting lots of textual and numeric onformation - having this read in reverse makes it very difficult to follow. If nothing else, I am getting totally fed up with having to do some mental readjustments to simply figure out which team has won a game.

#2 4.1 has fixed things

iOS 4.1 has fixed the problem with reversing reading, so this app is now much more usable.

#3 Version 3.0.0 takes a turn for the worse

Version 3.0.0 of this app has just been released, and as the release notes stated that it had been "rebuilt from the ground up", I double-tapped the Update button with some hesitation.

And sadly the hesitation was justified. Although the content of the app still seems to be accessible, there are now so many badly labelled buttons that it makes for a very frustrating and unsatisfying user experience.

Half an hour spent adding some custom labels might make things better, but right now I am too frustrated with this app to give it 30 minutes of my time.
