Other Comments

Had been a long time fan of the Tweetlist and until a friend of mine pointed me to this app. I instantly fell in love with this app. The simplicity, easy access to everything without digging deep in to other pages, and extremely fast in loading very large number of tweets.

It is now my favorite and top choice of a Twitter Client.

Overall, an absolutely awesome app and highly recommend this over Tweetlist.

Many new features are soon to come to provide even more things you will be able to do with this app.

#1 Don't update to 4.1

Submitted by Blind I Am on 22 April, 2011 - 04:38.

I've just downloaded the update to version 4.1, and this has major accessibility problems.

The timeline is now mostly inaccessible. You cannot swipe into or through the timeline. Tapping anywhere on the timeline will have VoiceOver read the text from the line that you happen to have tapped on, but nothing more. You will not be able to swipe to read anything more.

#2 Version 4.2 looks very good

The latest update to Twitterrific specifically mentions VoiceOver fixes in its release notes, and I have to say that I am really impressed with how the app now works.

It doesn't have all the features of TweetList, but I do find it more intuitive and generally easier to use. The interface is fairly minimal, whilst a double-tap on a tweet brings up a menu of every available action.

I like the way that VoiceOver reads tweets as you flick through your timeline. It tells me everything I want to know about the tweet, in the order I would like it. I particularly like that it states when a tweet is part of a conversation.

Like TweetList, it does not support push notifications, so you would need to use an app such as Boxcar to manage these.

#3 Nice app, largely overlooked

Submitted by Toonhead on 14 August, 2012 - 23:39.

Someone mentioned Twitterrific, and being the twitter nut I am, I had to give this one a go. I already have Echofon and Tweetlist pro, so why not try another one? I must say, I'm impressed with this one. Like previous people have said, I like the fact that you're told when a tweet is part of a conversation. It also plays the same sound that you might hear when using Boxcar. The first time I heard the sound, I was a bit surprised! The only thing that might put some users off at first is that when you're browsing tweets, the compose button is at the bottom of the screen, and you don't have the usual tabs like home, mentions, dm's or messages as some apps call them, or search. To get to these, you first have to double tap the back button at the top of the screen, and you'll then be able to get to these different parts of the app. Overall, it's a really nice one, and it's been largely overlooked due to its previously being a bit unusable with VoiceOver. i'm glad to say it's usable now so anyone looking for an interesting twitter app, give this one a look. You will get some adds, but these can be gotten rid of if you go premium.

#4 IT's all I use now

Submitted by Cory K on 14 August, 2012 - 23:47.

I use this app all the time because of it's simple interface, and the fact that it tells you when a tweet did or didn't post. thanks to @HLLF on twitter, I love it.

Listening from other Twitter users. We can all say we love Tweetlist but Twitterrific is right up there for me. I really like this client quite a bit. I'm in agreement this is overlooked by so many Twitter client reader. For being FREE you can't not try it at least.

I really do like this very much!

#6 DDefinitely staying with Twitterific

Submitted by Gerardo on 3 November, 2012 - 13:27.

I'd like to confess that since I've gotten my Iphone 3 months ago, I've gone back and forth among the Oficial Twitter App, TwitList and finally Twitterific. However now I definitely stay with Twitterific! Aside from the pros of letting us know when a Tweet has been posted, or Retweet posted or other prompts, the bird sound when tweets arrive is very original! Even better, and the reason why I now use Twitterific, is you can send tweets from anywhere in the app! Suppose I'm in the Message area (where one sees Direct Messages) and I want to tweet something to my general timeline? OK as easy as going to the bottom right of the screen, and there you have the post option! So would you join me in starting tu give Twitterific a try?

#7 I already have

Submitted by Clare Page on 3 November, 2012 - 14:50.

Hi! I've already tried Twitterriffic, and I think it's great. I know a lot of blind IOS users are fans of Tweetlist, but Twitterrific is definitely just as accessible as far as I'm concerned. It's true that Twitterrific doesn't have push notifications, which might be a drawback for some people, but for me it isn't, especially as I don't do a huge amount of tweeting from my iPhone: when I do, though, I like to have a good client to do it with, and Twiterrific fits the bill for me.

#8 Twitterrific: An Overlooked Twitter App

Submitted by Michael Hansen on 18 November, 2012 - 21:26.
Member of the AppleVis Editorial Team

I really haven't liked the native Twitter app ever since they introduced promoted tweets and the separate buttons to get to peoples' profiles. So, I've been bouncing between the native client, TweetList, and Twitterrific. I really like Twitterrific because of the notifications one gets when new tweets are loaded/posted/etc. and because of the nice little actions menu that pops up when you double-tap on tweets.

#9 Version 5.0

Twitterrific version 5.0 has been released, and it continues to work wonderfully with VoiceOver. It is worth noting that version 4 users will need to search for version 5 in the app store and also pay to upgrade.

"Special launch price – 50% off for a limited time ★★★

#10 I just paid for the upgrade

Submitted by alex wallis on 6 December, 2012 - 10:06.

I just paid for the upgrade to version 5 of this app,
one thing I like is the fact that you can keep both this new version of the app and the last v4 version on your phone at the same time.
After having installed this new version, I am not so keen on it compared to the old version.
I have found several unlabeled buttons in the help menu, I have also found that under settings and sync behaviour there is a button that simply says off checked, with no indication what is actually off.
I also found under sync service I can't uncheck the button that says i cloud using the usual double tap on the button.
I also find the new sidebar button you have to be quite precise when looking for the button to open it.
another thing I have found is that I don't seem to be able to get there instructions to work for clearing the tweet cash, double tapping and holding on my account doesn't seem to do anything.
Its also disapointing to see there two finger pull gesture to refresh manually, as if I understand it right this will conflict with VoiceOvers read gesture, and they seem to have got rid of the actual refresh button.
I think for the moment I will probably stick with the older version of this app,
I would like to contact the developers, but it seems a lot of work to create an account on there forum and create a new topic just to make contact, whatever happened to a proper e mail address?
Something else I also can't find is a setting which exists in the older app to change the refresh time so that it checks for updates more frequently.
Another setting I would like to see is an option to change the number of api calls the app can use, as at the moment it only seems to be able to use 1 call at a time, whereas on pc clients like the qube this can be changed to let the client download more tweets than just 200 which can be useful if you haven't been on twitter for a few days.

Alex,

Thanks for finding all of the problems you have faced with the new version. I will personally send this to the folks of Twitterrific on the problems you have found.

The team of Twitterrific has encouraged us to report all and any bugs that you find along with any accessible issues that you have come across.

They will work hard to ensure these issues will be addrressed and fixed.

So send anything you have at:

Thanks so much for pointing that out for us and for the team over at Twitterrific this will certainly help them out.

#12 call me crazy, but...

Submitted by Toonhead on 6 December, 2012 - 16:17.

I, too, much prefer the older interface of the twitterrific app. This new one is just a bit confusing to me and doesn't seem as intuitive. Plus there's no way of determining how often the app refreshes, or at least I haven't found a way of doing that. I don't regret the purchase though, I may come to grips with it eventually, and it may grow on me.

#13 Refreshing

Submitted by Brian Hartgen on 6 December, 2012 - 19:31.

Hi

If anyone knows how you can get the content to refresh automatically, we would really love to know please. I like the app. I have been trying to find a good Twitter app for a while as I am now beginning to use the iPad extensively and I like the interface of this app. If there is no way to refresh automatically, how can I refresh the content please using the Apple wireless keyboard?

Thanks for any help.

#19 TweetMark

Submitted by AnonyMouse on 11 December, 2012 - 21:25.
Member of the AppleVis Editorial Team

Hey Adam,

Well, what I do is this. Go to the Settings and find the Sync Behavior. Once in there be sure to select the Scroll to Marker.

Once that is on. Each time you open up Twitterrific. You will hear that it is refreshing. Wait until it says it has finished refreshing.

At this point. It should have automatically scrolled down to the last tweet it had retrieved from Twitter.

So what I do now is just keep flicking to the  left as you will go up towards the newer tweets.

I believe the marker automatically marks your spot by the last tweet it has pulled. Not certain if you can set a marker manually.

#21 How is this any different then Tweet List?

Submitted by blindgator on 14 December, 2012 - 19:35.

How is Twitterrific any different than Tweet List? Is there something I am missing but isn't all of this stuff that you have been able to do in Tweet List for quite awhile? Don't get me wrong, I think it is great to hear that the developers are making so many positive strides with Voiceover compatibility, I am just trying to figure out if I am happy with Tweet List, is this app worth buying? Thanks

Submitted by Lisa on 21 January, 2013 - 11:42.

Hello,
I just recently bought, and started using the Twitterrific app. Having a few problems with it though, such as big gaps in my timeline. I see tweets in tweetlist that don't show up in Twitterrific. How would I delete my account so that I can re add it manualy? Also how do I add my account manualy? I'm hoping that the soon to be released update to this app will fix these issues for me. Thank you for any help with this!

#26 Next update and beyond

Submitted by AnonyMouse on 21 January, 2013 - 14:02.
Member of the AppleVis Editorial Team

Hello Nanda and Lisa,

The release of v5.0.2 should be coming soon.

This should address many of the problems we are having. Especially, the gap with in our timeline. There is a Load button to load more tweets but unfortunetly, we just can't see it but my understanding this will be fixed in the next update.

Michael will be doing another podcast on this app when the new release comes out. We wanted to wait until we see more things get fixed.

As for the Themes. This is also another area they are continuing to fix. In the v5.0 that was not very accessible friendly but in 5.01 it had improved. We are hoping that in v5.02 will now give us the ability to have a Back button!

I'm glad that others found this a new love as for their Twitter Client. As you already know we are also a big fan of the Twitterrific and what they have plan for their future updates will only make this shine. So the keyword I have is patience. When they do roll out those updates and features will no doubt in my mind be the best.

#30 Muting

Submitted by AnonyMouse on 21 January, 2013 - 16:46.
Member of the AppleVis Editorial Team

Hello WildmanJoe,

You are not alone! I to wanted this ability and just recently ask the team of the Twitterrific on this particular suggestion.

At this time the app does not give us the ability to mute anyone. However, they did say that this is on their list of things to do. So we should expect to see this feature in the future updates.

This is definetly one of my top wish to see added in their app. They are aware of the wish and want for that Mute ability. So as soon when I hear of any news of it being offered in their release. You can certainlyand will see my posting on it right here.

Submitted by ÐEEÐA on 21 January, 2013 - 19:09.

I tried the gesture for double tapping and holding for RT with a comment and haven't gotten it to work. just wondering why.
also, I wish you could delete entire DM conversations using quick actions like the swipe down with one finger to delete things like other apps do. maybe someone could mention this to the twitterrific developers...
would use this app a lot more if it had mute rules, conversation deletion and an RT with commont that didn't seem unusable.

Hello Deeda,

There are two seperate set of menus when you do two different gesture. So let me try to help you out.

The one set of Menu is when you do a double tap and hold. The second set of menu is the double tap and no hold. So simply do a double tap on a tweet. Now this will offer you a way to Re-Tweet from here.

#37 Theme Page Advice

Submitted by AnonyMouse on 22 January, 2013 - 20:05.
Member of the AppleVis Editorial Team

Found out something today from the great people from Twitterrific! At first I thought there was a bug with in the Theme area. I couldn't for the life of me find the Close or the Back button to get out of here.

So here is what the developers of Twitterrific had to say about that:
"It's not obvious but there is a universal Voice Over gesture to dismiss a view/panel. Simply make a "Z" shape with two fingers on the screen and the theme panel will dismiss."

So I gave this a try and lord behold it worked!

Thought I pass this advice along to others.

#40 Hi all,I must admit I

Submitted by alex wallis on 15 March, 2013 - 09:35.

Hi all,
I must admit I haven't used twitterrific5 on my phone much, because mostly I get tweets on the computer, however I have started to use version 5 a bit more recently and now have 2 questions.
In particular I am having problems locating two buttons while in the view that displays tweets.
I am having problems finding the compose button I have tried running my finger all over the screen but keep coming across tweets.
The second button I am having problems finding is the button called load more that loads more tweets from your timeline.
I found it once by accident but haven't been able to find it again.
I have my phone in portrait mode.
Any tips for locating these two buttons would be appreciated.
Its a shame that the rotor can't be used to quickly find buttons on the screen.

#41 Compose and load more

Submitted by Tangela on 15 March, 2013 - 12:55.

Hello, the compose button is always in the top right corner of the screen. put your finger on the status bar icon for battery percentage and slide your finger down. You should hit it that way. Now to find the load more button. When twitteriffic automatically refreshes, you should be at the last tweet you read, at the bottom of the newest tweets. If you can load more tweets, flicking left, as you would when scrolling through your tweets, will announce that as an option. Sometimes, when you first refresh, this button will say "dimmed", but flicking left, the right twice, then back left to the button usually fixes that. If you meant how to refresh your timeline manually to load tweets, when you are at the top of the list, do a three-finger slide down. This is the IOS pull to refresh gesture. Hope this helps.

#43 Hi, I think your talking

Submitted by alex wallis on 15 March, 2013 - 13:14.

Hi, I think your talking about push notifications and no they are not supported yet but will be in a future update.
I have found that I have to scroll back through allot of tweets just to find the load more button.
I have asked the developer on twitter if it can be made possible to find the button by using the buttons option on the rotor.

1. Is there a quick way or easy jesture to switch between accounts if you have more than one twitter acount set up?
2. If you havent used Twitterific for a while and you open it, it will be at the last tweet you read however sometimes I want to jump right up to the latest tweet and don't want to scroll through the entire backlog, how can I do this?

#45 No, not push notifications

Submitted by Riley on 15 March, 2013 - 13:18.

I'm not referring to push notifications, I'm referring to some apps that refresh their timelines every so often. Does Twitterifick support this?

#46 Information

Submitted by Tangela on 15 March, 2013 - 13:31.

The app should automatically refresh whenever you open it. Try hitting the home button and then reopening the app if you don't find this to be the case. The easiest way to change accounts, according to the twitteriffic help, is to tap and hold the sidebar button. Have not tried this. If you want to get to the first tweet in a list, find the compose button using the method I described above and then flick to the right. that will cause it to read the tweets from the most recent.

#50 I never really paid much

Submitted by rdfreak on 27 March, 2013 - 22:08.

I never really paid much attention to IOS twitter clients previously but after hearing the podcast and reading through all these comments, I am impressed and will be definitely buying this tonight. The thing I like which differs from the standard twitter client is being able to mark where we3're up to in the timeline.
One small question; I assume "muffling" referrs to filtering out that user or hash tag?

Muffling is very much like what Mute does in the Twitter native app. It is a way to muffle people from your timeline.. This allow you to keep following someone without haveing to unfollow them. What you can't do and somebody can clarify this for me. Is that you can't muffle upon say a hastag. It only works on a person. So basically you can only turn them off or on from your timeline.

#56 Muffling Hashtags

Submitted by GuideDragon on 23 April, 2013 - 10:12.

I'm having trouble muffling hashtags using Voice Over. I contacted Twitterific support, and they said tap and hold the hashtag to bring up that option. When I asked for more help, they gave me a site to go to which, while a nice promotional, did nothing to explain why I'm having difficulty with this process. Is anyone else having this problem?

Thanks.

#57 Problem with Direct Messages

Submitted by blindgator on 24 April, 2013 - 23:51.

With Twitterrific being so highly regarded by my fellow blind peeps, I finally broke down and bought it even though I have been very happy with Tweet List. Not sure if I have a setting set wrong, as none of my Direct Messages are showing up under Messages. I just got a few from someone and they show up on my mac in Night Owl, in Tweet List in the iPhone, but Messages in Twitterrific are blank. Any clue what the problem is? Thanks
