Compatibility

This is a native iPhone and iPod Touch app that is displayed in 2x mode on an iPad

Accessibility Comments

The app is partially accessible. The "Back button" is labeled, and the bottom set of buttons, such as Search and Popular, are labeled. Many other buttons are not labeled. The main content is browseable with VoiceOver, however, and you can go through the list of titles and select what to read or listen too. Articles are readable using VoiceOver. Audio can be played as well--flick past the text entry and you will encounter a button labeled "button," flick one more to another unlabeled button and tap to listen. It takes a bit of tinkering but its possible to enjoy The Onion's content.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads most page elements.

Button Labeling

Few buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

There are some accessibility issues with this app, but it can still be used if you are willing to tolerate these issues and learn how to work around them.

#1 Selecting categories

Something else to note with this app is the category selection bar. This is displayed at the top of the Home screen. It is a sliding bar, and VoiceOver will only read the categories that are visually displayed. To access more category choices you will need to make sure that VoiceOver focus is on this bar and then do a three-finger swipe to the left or right.

#2 Having trouble with the audio

Submitted by Follis on 22 August, 2011 - 06:20.

Hey there. I downloaded the Onion App on my IPhone 4 and I was able to scroll through the titles and click on one and read the text. However, When I scroll to the button to play the audio and click on it, it tells me something about this has been saved and I have 24 slots left. I can't seem to play the audio. Has anyone else ran in to this problem?
Thank you.
John
